A diverse and delicious cuisine, friendly local people, world-class beaches, all the amenities you could hope for and an intoxicating vibe make Mexico a place that we return to time and time again.

It’s one of our much-loved countries to travel to and one of the few destinations where we could see ourselves living long-term. There are so lots of extraordinary places to visit in Mexico, and things to do that you could spend years here and not see it all.

Mexico is inexpensive these days thanks to a struggling peso added to an already low cost of living. At the time of writing, the us dollar is at 20.5 pesos — which is incredible.

We’ve been to Mexico many times, but when we travelled here way back in 2014, the dollar was at just 12.8 pesos and even then we thought it was good value for money.

UPDATE 2022: While Mexico can absolutely be a very cheap country to travel to, you’ll save a lot more money by avoiding the main vacationer spots, such as Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Tulum.

Tacos are tasty and inexpensive in Mexico

If you want to really save money while checking out Mexico, avoid coming here during height season (November – March) when accommodation prices can skyrocket (especially in December) and lots of of the best places are booked out.

No matter when you travel here, Mexico will shock you with its great value.

Tacos for 30 cents each, a kilo of fresh prawns from the fish market for $3, Coronas with a slice of lime for $1.50 and strong margaritas served to you while your feet are buried in the sand for just $1 each.

You’ll find inexpensive internal flights with Viva Aerobus and Aeromexico, and cheap long-distance bus rides.

The beautiful streets of Guanajuato. If you really want to save money, try to visit the less-popular destinations in Mexico

On top of the great prices for food and booze gotten in restaurants and bars, Mexico has lots of shops that North Americans love, like Sams Club, Costco in the major cities, and Walmart.

Mexico also has its own brand of grocery stores like La Comer, Mega and Soriana. purchasing your own groceries and cooking for yourself is a great way to save money (and make a healthy meal) as the food in the grocery stores here is very reasonable.

Mexico may be one of the least expensive countries to visit, but it’s also a popular destination for digital nomads and retirees seeking to spend a longer period of time in the country.

Given current travel restrictions around the world, Mexico is also one of the easiest countries to enter in 2022

India is one of the most exhilarating travel destinations on earth.

Chaotic and tranquil. excellent and filthy. friendly and furious. complimentary and frustrating. India is the epitome of all the oxymoronic experiences that make travel so amazing.

While India is likely the most exciting and bewildering place to travel to, it’s also probably the cheapest.

Thanks to the Indian Rupee currently trading at nearly 75 rupees to the dollar (which is 5 rupees a lot more per dollar than you would have received in 2021), India is likely the best place to travel if you want to stretch your dollars, euros or pounds.

The last time we were in India, I purchased the least expensive (yet filling) meal I’ve ever had while travelling. 20 cents gotten me a pile of puris (fluffy fried bread) and two different types of curries served to me from a street cart. The meal was delicious and completely filled me up… amazing.

While the cost of that meal was remarkably low, we often ate all you can eat thali meals for as little as $1.50 and drank fresh lime juice squeezed on the street for 15 cents a glass.

We had complimentary accommodation in ashrams (it doesn’t get much more affordable than that) and when paying for our hotels, we had respectable but basic double rooms for around $5 per night.

The beautiful blue city of Jodhpur, India

Depending on what class of train and bus you take, getting around India can be done on a budget, with a train from Mumbai to Kolkata covering 1,968 km and taking over 30 hours costing aroUnde 11!

NEW departure process for domestic buddy Flights from Manila: step-by-step guide

Last updated: 2020 • Dec • 11

If you’re flying from the Ninoy Aquino international airport (NAIA, MNL) to a domestic destination with Philippine Airlines, it is essential to be familiar with the new procedures that you have to follow prior to departure. The country’s flag carrier has released a series of new guidelines on Facebook, and we compiled them in a step-by-step guide!

Note that this guide is for domestic flights originating from Manila. For international flights arriving in Manila, read this instead: new ARRIVAL process IN MANILA!

Here’s what to do before your domestic flight.

4. follow safety guidelines at the airport.

1. Pre-register before your flight.

As early as three (3) days prior to departure, you ought to accomplish the passenger profile and health declaration form (PPHD). To get the form, you need to pre-register first through the buddy pre-registration form.

To do this, you need a valid and active email account. If you don’t have one yet, it’s easy to sign up for a Gmail account. You need this because you’ll be sent essential information through email.

✅ PRE-REGISTER HERE!

This applies to the following airports where buddy operates:

Manila – Ninoy Aquino international airport

Antique – Evelio Javier Airport

Bacolod – new Bacolod Silay international Airport

Basco – Basco Airport

Busuanga – Francisco B. Reyes Airport

Butuan – Butuan airport

Tacloban – Daniel Z. Romualdez airport

Tagbilaran – Bohol Panglao international Airport

2. accomplish the PPHD Form.

Once you have pre-registered, you will be sent through email a distinct reference code and a link to the actual passenger profile and health declaration form (PPHD), which you need to fill out before your flight.

Take note of the reference code because you might use it later on.

Even if you’re traveling as part of the group, each passenger should accomplish the form.

Follow the even more instructions in the email.

3. protected the requirements of your destination’s local government.

Aside from the common requirements like flight booking, some local government units (LGUs) need you to submit or present additional documents. The list varies depending on the destination. Some cities or provinces have much more requirements than others. It is essential that you’re familiar with these.

You can check PAL’s compilation of requirements here: list of travel Requirements.

On that page, scroll down to the bottom and you’ll find a menu. Click those that apply to you and they’ll reveal a list of requirements per destination and passenger classification.

Some LGUs require passengers to show negative test results before departure. buddy has partnered with some certified testing centers. You can also get a PAL-exclusive discount on testing fees and get a queueing priority if you choose a partner testing center. See the full list here!

That said, on top of this, we still strongly encourage you to call your destination’s local government unit to be sure that you have the updated list of requirements. These policies change rapidly and it’s always best to get the information directly from those who make the rules.

4. follow safety guidelines at the airport.

To guarantee safety, the Civil Aeronautic Board and the Inter-Agency task force on emerging infectious diseases (IATF-EID) have set guidelines for domestic passenger air transportation operations that both airline staff and passengers should strictly observe at the airport and on board the plane.

Here are some of the rules:

Wear a face mask whatsoever times. This is mandatory.

Wear a face shield. effective 15 August 2020, this has been mandatory. The face shield should be clear and with a snug fit, covering the entire face.

Observe physical and social distancing. reduce contact whatsoever times, even upon

3 countries Filipinos can visit with a JAPAN VISA

Visa and immigration policies change often, so it’s best to contact the respective embassy to confirm if these privileges still apply. Also, this post is for Philippine passport holders who plan to visit as tourists only.

When we were invited to speak at the world tourism Forum in Istanbul in early 2016, our excitement rapidly morphed into worry when we realized Filipinos are required to get a visa to enter Turkey. It wouldn’t have been a problem any other day, but we were traveling abroad and we didn’t have much more time to apply for one. but a quick online search revealed that e-Visas were available for Filipinos with a valid multiple-entry Japan visa. It saved us. The application took only minutes.

Sadly, Turkey no longer accepts Japan visa as a supporting document. (They limited it to US, UK, Schengen, and Ireland visas.) but it opened our eyes that this whole visa game is much more complicated than we previously thought. Some countries are simpler to visit if you have existing visas from other countries. For example, having a us visa on your Philippine passport will allow you to access numerous other countries. and that’s good news for Filipino travelers given that the Philippine passport isn’t all that powerful. At the school of passport privileges, the Philippines doesn’t sit at the table where popular kids like Germany, Singapore, South Korea or the us have their lunch.

Japan is a dream destination for numerous Filipinos. Over the past few years, visa policies have been unwinded and much more forgiving, allowing numerous to visit Japan easily. but your Japan visa is much more powerful than you think! It comes with numerous other perks. With a valid Japan visa, your Philippine passport will get a bit much more edge.

Here are some countries that you can visit much much more easily with a Japan visa!

Montenegro

I discovered this on my recent trip to Europe’s Balkan region. My Schengen visa wasn’t multiple entry, which narrowed down the countries that I could visit in the area. but then I found out that Montenegro grants entry to travelers of certain nationalities, including Filipinos, offered that they have a valid multiple entry Japan visa!

I emailed their Ministry of foreign Affairs to confirm and they replied with this:

According to the short article 7 of the Decree on Visa Regime, holders of valid foreign travel files including a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa of commonwealth of Australia, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Croatia, Japan, Canada, new Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Romania, the united states of America and the united kingdom of great Britain and northern Ireland may enter, pass through the territory and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, and not longer than the expiry of visa if the period of validity of the visa is less than 30 days.

A few days later, I was in Montenegro! I went to Kotor and Perast and they were so beautiful!

Mexico

If you have a valid multiple-entry Japan visa on your Philippine passport, you don’t need to apply for a Mexico visa for stays shorter than 180 days. I learned about this because we get invited to a lot of press trips to Mexico at the last minute and we kept on declining thinking we would need to apply for a Mexico visa, which can take days. but when we finally took the time to research, we found out that we didn’t actually need one if we have a valid Japan visa.

According to the Mexican Embassy:

With the purpose of facilitating and promoting travel to Mexico, effective may 2016 all those foreign nationals, regardless of their nationality, going to Mexico for tourism, company or transit are NOT required to obtain a Mexican visa IF they hold a valid (non-expired) Visa or permanent residence of any of this countries: united states of America, Canada, Japan, united kingdom or Schengen area (European Union).

Ting ting ting! Japan is there! but this seems to good to be true so I emailed the embassy of Mexico in Manila to be absolutely sure! Here’s what they said.

So yep, it’s confirmed. You can enter Mexico for tourism with a Japan visa.

Georgia

Normally, a visa can be obtained online using Georgia’s E-Visa service website. but recently, they have allowed Filipino citizens to enter the country if their passport has a valid visa from any of the member states of the Organisation for economic Co-operation and development (OECD), which include (among others) the US, the UK, Australia, South Korea, and (wait for it) Japan!

I evaluated it by making a synthetic application at Georgia’s E-Visa site and here’s what it said when I entered my Japan visa as a supporting document:

In case the text is too small for mobile readers, here’s what it says: holders of valid visa or(फिलिपिन्स) को निवास अनुमति भिसा आवश्यकताहरूबाट छुट दिइन्छ।

ALONE / TOGETHER: 8 shooting locations in UP Diliman

Although Alone/Together, Black Sheep’s latest romantic film, is mostly set in UP Diliman, it will never make you feel being excluded. The movie stars Liza Soberano and Enrique Gil, who play an iska (a UP female student) and a UST medical student who fell in love and dreamed together only to drown in the harsh, sobering realities of life.

I’m sure a lot of people, idealistic or realistic, can relate to the characters and situations. but I admit that as an iska myself, the film Alone/Together made me really nostalgic because of all those familiar places. It made me want to revisit the campus and relive my college days!

If you’ve seen the film and you want to visit the spots where Lizquen had their best moments, here they are!

If you haven’t watched it yet, this may contain some mild spoilers. but if you are cool about it, read on.

UP Sunken Garden

After “Oble” (Oblation Statue), the Sunken garden is arguably the second most prominent feature in UP Diliman campus. It’s open to all, like a very approachable friend who is willing to listen to all your rants and problems. It has also been home to many week-long UP fair celebration spoiling us with well-loved OPM music but also an annual dose of “jumping jologs”, in case you missed being one. ;P

In the movie, the Sunken garden became witness to the blossoming love between Tin (Liza) and Raf (Enrique), sharing their dreams and plans for the future. It also served as a place of contemplation when their paths crossed again after several years.

Palma Hall

Most popularly known as “AS” (Arts & science Building) to iskos and iskas, Palma Hall is where freshies usually take their general education subjects. All the scenes of Tin attending Art Studies major classes happened here. one of Palma Hall’s famous areas is the “AS Steps” — those many little steps leading to the main entrance gate of the building.

Academic Oval (Lantern Parade)

If UP Diliman were a heart, the academic Oval can be considered the aorta, the largest artery, pumping out blood throughout the body via the smaller arteries connected to it. Driving along the academic Oval, you will pass by, among others, Quezon Hall (main entrance), Vargas Museum, Palma Hall (AS), Benitez Hall (College of Education), Vinzons Hall, Malcolm Hall (College of Law), Melchor Hall (College of Engineering), UP Theater, Abelardo Hall (College of Music), UP Carillon, and Plaridel Hall (College of Mass Communications).

The UP lantern Parade scene was shot here. In fact, you can actually get a glimpse of the Acad Oval in all of the following scenes: Sunken garden scenes, street food stall in front of Vinzons Hall with Tin’s friends, and Palma Hall/AS steps scenes.

Vinzons Hall

Vinzons Hall has been the headquarters of the university student Council. The front, which is usually crowded as all jeepney routes operating in and around the campus stop here, is laden with street food stalls. It also houses the Vinzons hill Tambayan Complex.

One of my most favorite funny scenes was shot here, not only because it’s kilig overload but also because of the street food that I terribly miss! Tin was food tripping with her friends when Raf appeared out of nowhere, sweaty from the commute from España to Diliman. Talk about “E for effort” or is it “A for effort”? मा दोधारमा छु! but one thing is certain: Liza is still beautiful even with a huge pimple on her face.

UP Cine Adarna

Operated by the UP film Institute, the Cine Adarna is the national university’s 800-seater cinema. It can showcase and screens films free from censorship for academic purposes. Tin’s college graduation scene was shot here.

Vargas Museum

The institution who took her in when no one was willing to trust her and most of them were doubting her sincerity. The scenes that came after were all set in Vargas museum — Tin working at the museum and then setting up an art exhibit/event.

Tomato Kick

A favorite dining and drinking spot among UP students even back in the day! located in Teachers’ Village, just outside of the campus. It serves as the setting for this scene.

Chocolate Kiss

Ah! The famed chocolate Kiss. back when we were students, my friends and I would tease ourselves being nakaluwag-luwag when we managed to eat at chocolate Kiss despite our meager student funds or allowance. the most popular product is the Devil’s Food Cake. Mmmmm!

Tin went to visit her favorite Art Studies professor, Mr. Alvarez. They continued catching up over a meal at chocolate Kiss restaurant at Bahay ng Alumni, across Cine Adarna and UP Theater.

Bonus: national museum of fine Arts

But of course! Although this is not located inside UP Diliman campu

Stult।

म अलways find myself with extra food when I cook in hostels. This helps avoid waste and provides food for the next day. It’s an fantastic travel hack surprisingly few people make use of.

5. Fly with fewer connections

While I don’t believe in flight shaming, it’s impossible to deny that flying does have a hefty carbon impact. In addition to limiting your flying, try to use longer flights with fewer connections. A significant portion of airplane emissions occur during takeoff and landing, which means if you fly shorter flights with more connections, your emissions will be drastically higher.

Flying direct is simply the better option environmentally, so opt for that whenever possible.

6. avoid Overvisited Destinations

If you can, avoid cities grappling with overtourism. You’ll find fewer crowds and lower prices, and you also won’t be putting as much strain on local communities struggling to keep up. (And, from a sheer personal-enjoyment point of view, who wants to deal with crowds or long lines? No one.)

If you do visit overtouristed places, such as Venice, Amsterdam, or Barcelona, pick a hotel or hostel instead of using sites like Airbnb. apartment rentals drive up rents for locals and force them out of the city center. Unless you’re going to share accommodation with a local by renting a room from them (or using Couchsurfing), stick to hotels and hostels. Airbnb and similar sites really are detrimental to cities that don’t have a lot of housing.

7. Take Public Transportation

After walking, public transportation is the next best way to explore new destinations. On arrival, head to the local tourism office to learn about the options (as well as any visitor discounts available for public transit).

If you do need a taxi, use ridesharing apps instead. Uber and Lyft have a “pool” option in many cities, which lets you split your ride with other travelers. While it may take a little longer to get to your destination, it will save you money and ensure that your ride is as eco-friendly as possible.

When it comes to longer distances, budget buses are your best way of getting around, since they usually pack in a lot of passengers. Megabus and FlixBus are two of the most popular options.

8. eat local

Food that is imported has a much higher carbon footprint than locally grown food (and it’s usually not as fresh either). To keep your carbon footprint down, eat like a local. stick to foods that are grown locally, and avoid packaged and imported foods much as possible. This will ensure that you’re eating seasonal produce, which not only is going to be the freshest but will also support the local economy. (Also, stick to organic food if you can.)

Sure, the odd Western comfort meal is not the end of the world, but the more you eat locally, the more you reduce your environmental footprint and the more you help the local economy as well. After all, you didn’t come to Thailand to eat a burger you could get at home, right?

9. cut Back on Meat and Dairy

I’m not saying you need to go vegan. I love meat and never plan to give up bacon. but if you’re concerned with the impact of your food, reducing your meat and dairy intake is extremely helpful. Over 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from food — and the majority of those emissions are from animal products. So by cutting back on your meat and dairy consumption, you’ll drastically reduce your carbon footprint. (Avoid Brazilian beef if you can, as lot comes from cleared rainforest land. Cattle ranching is the #1 cause of rainforest deforestation in the world. same for soy too.)

Plus, it’s never been easier to travel as a vegan or vegetarian, as there are tons of fantastic restaurants out there — as well as apps to help you find them (you can download the HappyCow app to find the best vegan and vegetarian options near you).

Even if you take meat and dairy out of one meal a week, you’ll be moving the needle in favor of a lower carbon footprint and a more ethical diet.

10. avoid animal Attractions

Part of traveling green is helping the other creatures that inhabit his earth. That means you should avoid any and all attractions that use captive wild animals for entertainment. the most common offenders are riding elephants, swimming with dolphins, visiting captive whales, and petting (drugged) tigers. These activities require animal abuse and imprisonment and should be avoided.

Animals are best viewed in their natural habitats. If you want to see them, go on a safari, jungle hike, or whale-watching tour and see the animals where they belong, in the wild.

If you want to be an ethical and responsible traveler, stick to taking photographs and avoid direct interactions with animals.

11. reduce Your Plastic Use

I hate plastic. It creates a ton of waste. From plastic bottles to toothpaste tubes to shopping bags,प्लास्टिकको बेकार म स्वीकार गर्छु म सिद्ध छैन, र म अझै धेरै धेरै प्रयोग गर्छु, तर म सँधै मेरो उपभोग कम गर्न कोशिस गर्दैछु (दुबै घर र विदेशमा)।

SUPERSTAR VIRGO: cruise guide for First-Timers (What to Expect)

Recently, we have been invited by star Cruises to experience sailing from Manila to Ilocos to Taiwan to Hong Kong aboard Superstar Virgo. This wasn’t our first time cruising, so we were a bit much more confident this time around. On our first time a few years back, we were so intimidated by the whole cruise thing. You see, we’re used to backpacking so anything that resembles luxury feels alien to us. preparing for it alone was unnerving. What do I pack? What ought to I wear? What travel files do I need? how expensive is it gonna be? are there hidden charges? how do I disembark?

This post is brought to you by star Cruises. If you’re sailing aboard Superstar Virgo soon and it’s your first time to cruise, this post is for you. This also applies to other routes of the Virgo. I hope this short article be able to prepare you for this new, marvelous, and extremely unwinding experience! here are 10 things you can expect.

Packing & Pre-Trip Preparations

First things first, travel documents. If you’re joining the Manila-Laoag-Kaohsiung-Hong Kong cruise, no visas needed. You only need to bring your passport and a photocopy of its bio page.

It’s a cruise so it wouldn’t hurt to dress up and achieve your #OOTD goals. We packed at least 2 sets of clothes a day: one set of light clothes for touring, and another for the evening shows. Why two sets? It’s pretty amazing inside the ship, but things change as soon as you get out of it. In our case, it’s the middle of April! Onboard, I’m clad in shorts and a t-shirt with a polo on top of it. but as soon as we go outside, I had to remove the polo because it would get too hot especially on Ilocos and Kaohsiung stops. Hong Kong was a different story. It rained so hard for a brief moment. Takeaway: check the weather in every stop and prepare accordingly.

The rooms are also equipped with slip-on sandals, bath robes, and toiletries. You will also be offered a see-through plastic pouch wherein you can put your passport and access card (which I will discuss later).

Remember: Each passenger is allowed only one piece of check-in luggage free-of-charge. Anything much more will incur additional fees.

For the Manila season, the default currency is the Hong Kong dollar (HKD).

Boarding

Superstar Virgo in Manila

In numerous ways, the process is similar to that at the airport. You still need valid travel documents, check in your baggage, and pass through an immigration inspection and safety and security checks before boarding.

You will be given a mag card (access card). DO NOT lose IT. It’s the most essential item as soon as you step into the ship. It serves as your keycard to your cabin and credit report card when purchasing something or dining at specialty restaurants. You will also need this when disembarking to explore the ports and when returning to the ship.

You will need to surrender your passport upon boarding. You’ll have it back after the journey.

Safety Drill

As soon as everyone is settled, there will be a safety drill that you are required to participate in. It is incredibly essential that you are familiar with the ship’s geography and the directions you need to take in case of an emergency.

Safety Drill
Manila Bay Sunset
In Manila, the drill happens best before sunset, so as soon as it’s over, head straight to Deck 12 to have a better view. We’ve been to a lot of places around the world, but Manila provides some of the most spectacular sunsets.

Do it at every stop. nothing is much more unwinding that just viewing the sun call it a day.

3 Inclusive Restaurants

“Inclusive,” implying you can dine here free-of-charge. It’s part of what you paid for. Onboard the Virgo, there are three inclusive dining options:

Mediterranean Buffet. the most popular, located on Deck 12, just behind the Parthenon Pool. serves breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper. No reservations needed.

Genting Palace. Western and Chinese cuisines. serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is also where the Gala dinner takes place. Although it is inclusive, reservation is required.

The pavilion Room. Family-style restaurant. In my opinion, of the three, this is the best. serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Reservations required.

Both Genting palace and the pavilion offer full-course meals (appetizer, soup, main course, dessert). drinks will be charged to your room.

Prawns on Angel Hair Pasta at the Genting Palace
Salmon and Hamachi Sashimi at Samurai
Aside from these, there are specialty dining options! There’s the Taj providing Indian favorites, and Samurai serving delectable Japanese cuisine. Samurai have us our best gastronomic experience onboard. From the salmon and yellowtail (hamachi) sashimi as appetizer to teppanyaki as main course and matcha ice cream as dessert, that meal was scrumptious from start to finish.

Shore Excursions (Shorex)

This is the part where you can get off the ship and explore the city where it is docked.

In our case, it has three stops: Laoag, Kaohsiung, and Hong Kong. At every stop, they offer various pre-arranged trips called Shorex (shore excursions). For example, in Laoag, you have a choice among Laoag City Tour, Paoay Sand Dunes, Vigan Heritage Tour, and a couple more.

Other routes will have their own shorex offers, of course.

Hong Kong Island Skyline
You can book a pre-arranged trip or do it on your own (DIY). It’s completely up to you.

If you book a shorex, you will be joining the rest of the cruise passengers who booked that tour. The terrific thing about it is that you have everything taken care of for you. You will have a trip guide and a few members of the crew will join the group. They will make sure you’re back at the port in time for sailing. meals are also typically included.

If you pull a DIY, you have complete control of your time and it’s going to be cheaper. However, make sure you’re back by the prescribed time because the ship will NOT wait for you.

Either way, you will be given a small sheet of paper upon disembarkation. read IT, understand IT, keep IT. It will tell you what time you have to be back. It changes per stop. The boarding deadline in Taiwan is different from that in Hong Kong.

Room and Amenities

Balcony Room
There are four types of accommodations onboard, from the most affordable to the fanciest: inside Room, ocean view Room, Balcony Room, and Suite. On our first time, we stayed in an inside Room; this time in a Balcony Room. In both occasions, the room was always frequently maintained, with multiple cleanups within the day. complimentary bottles of water also replenish every day.

If you have enough budget for an inside Room, opt for it. Don’t drop the idea of cruising just because you can’t afford the best rooms. In my experience, we spent many of our time outside the room — going on shore excursions, pigging out at the restaurants, and exploring other amenities.

Speaking of amenities, here are some that you can delight in for FREE:

We packed gym clothes but we failed to use them because we would already average 15,000 steps per day just by joining the shore excursions.

Pool. located on Deck 12.

Casino. In case you’re interested. Deck 7.

Parthenon Pool
Duty totally free onboard
There’s also responsibility totally free shops on Decks 7 and 8, and a small store selling chips, chocolates, and biscuits (including Filipino products) on Deck 12 just next to the bar.

Spend your evenings viewing a show at the Lido Theater. some of these performances can be delighted in for free, while others incur additional charges, including the for-adults-only show.

Gala night and Dinner

Happens on the fifth night. It’s an event that begins with a cocktail party at the Grand Piazza on Deck 7, where the captain introduces the senior members of the crew. There are also musical performances. overflowing wine!

The captain introducing the senior members of the team.
Gala dinner at Genting Palace
At around 6pm, delight in a full-course dinner at the Genting palace as a pianist serenades you with the unlimited ocean in the background.

If you intend to join this, make sure you’re dressed for the occasion. dress Code: stylish Casual. No shorts and no open toed footwear. For guys, prepare a collared t-shirt or blazer.

Wifi

We know how essential it is to you so we created a separate section for it.

Every passenger is given 1-hour complimentary Internet access. If you need more, you’re gonna have to purchase a plan.

24 hrs: HKS 116

24 hrs (Social plan): HKD 54

Whole Cruise: HKD 505

Remember: you’re in the middle of the ocean, sharing the connection with the rest of the ship, so don’t expect lightning speeds, but it’s good enough for browsing, checking emails, social media, and even viewing YouTube videos.

Staff

Filipina working at Samurai
What we love the most about the Superstar Virgo is that it feels like home because of the staff. There are a lot of Filipinos working onboard: from the reception to the restaurants to the room services. I’m pretty sure there are much more in the non-guest-facing departments, too. and it’s always fantastic to get to talk with them. They are happy of their work!

The rest of the crew is warm, friendly, and always prepared to help. You don’t even need to ask for assistance. If they see you looking like you need something (info, direction, whatever), they will be the first to method you with a smile.

Checking Out

On the day before you arrive in Manila, you will be requested to proceed to Deck 12 for a health check. You will just be filling out a form and pass by a thermal imager.

Pack your stuff before hitting the sack on your last nचर्यसँग तपाईंको चेक-इन ब्यागेज तपाईंको अन्तिम दिनको बिहान सबेरै स collect ्कलन गर्नेछ।

PAHIYAS celebration ON A BUDGET: travel guide & itinerary

The very first thing I stated to myself when I stepped in the town of Lucban was “OMG, I belong.” I’ve always liked anything bright as well as vibrant. It’s like if I die as well as I get reincarnated into a Philippine Festival, I’d most likely be Pahiyas. (Not that celebrations are living things. however you get the point.)

The Pahiyas celebration is celebrated every may 15 in Lucban, Quezon, in honor of the municipality’s customer saint, San Isidro Labrador (St. Isidore the Farmer). It’s the locals’ method of providing thanks for the bountiful gather over the past year. After an early morning mass at Lucban Church, a parade goes around town, passing by homes that are decorated with vegetables, fruits, handicrafts, as well as kiping, leaf-shaped paper-like decors made of rice. The grander, the better. The more vibrant the home is, the more people it attracts.

If Pahiyas is your type of celebration too, make sure that you’re well-prepared for a visit.

How to get to Lucban, Quezon

Lucban is a second-class municipality in Quezon bordering Tayabas to the south, Sampaloc to the north, as well as the province of Laguna to the east. It is in close proximity to a number of cities where transportation choices are plenty including Lucena as well as Tayabas in Quezon, as well as Calamba as well as Sta. Cruz in Laguna.

By Public Transportation.

There are a number of choices to reach Lucban from Manila. There are vans, buses or jeeps in most of the close-by cities, however this is the path that I have tried: via Lucena City.

1. From Cubao, EDSA-Kamuning, or EDSA-Buendia, take a bus to Lucena City (Fare: P225, travel time: 4-5 hours).

2. At the Lucena Grand Terminal, trip a jeepney to Lucban (Fare: P30, travel time: 30-45 minutes).

By personal Car

1. Take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).

2. Take Calamba or Sto. Tomas exit. If you exit in Calamba, you’ll be passing with numerous towns in Laguna (Los Banos, Bay, Pila, Sta. Cruz, Pagsanjan, Cavinti, Luisiana) up until you reach Lucban. travel time: 2.5-3 hours.

If you take Sto. Tomas, you’ll be passing with Alaminos as well as San Pablo in Laguna, as well as Tiaong, Candelaria, as well as Sariaya in Quezon. When you reach Tayabas, comply with the Tayabas-Lucban Road. travel time: 3.5-4 hours.

You can discover auto parking areas outside of the parade path (and outside the town proper). You may walk or take the tricycle to go around.

Remember: you’re going to a fiesta. as well as just like any type of fiesta in the Philippines, web traffic is expected. Whether you’re taking public or personal transportation, the key is to leave as early as possible so you show up in Lucban just in time for the 6am mass, which signals the begin of the parade.

What to perform in Lucban

The government of Lucban usually has prepared a number of activities lined up for the occasion. It’s always finest to get a hold of the listing of activities particularly if you’re planning on staying in the next days. however if you’re staying for just a day (May 15), here’s what you can do.

Pahiyas Festival
Pahiyas Festival

Attend the 6am Mass. This signals the begin of the parade. however take the time to notice the church. officially named San Luis Obispo de Tolosa Parish Church, this Lucban church is really its third version. The very first was developed in 1595 however was ruined in 1629. The second building was built from 1630 to 1640 however was destroyed in a terminate in 1733. The present church was completed in 1738.

Follow the parade. The parade begins after the very first mass. It goes around town, passing by the embellished homes participating in the Timpalak Pahiyas. If that’s as well congested for you, you can roam on your own, take photos, as well as converse with locals.

Visit Kamay ni Hesus Healing Church, a relaxed place, perfect for Catholic pilgrims who want a moment of tranquility. warning though: on this day, even this area can get overcrowded. Also, if you wanna see the entire place, prepare for an uphill battle. It’s found outside the town appropriate so you may want to take a tricycle to get here.

Food trip! There is street food everywhere! You’ll discover kiosks selling pancit habhab (a noodle meal served on banana leaves or plastic bags as well as eaten without utensils), longganisang lucban (local sausages), as well as pilipit (a type of fried dough confectionery similar to donuts however twisted).

Speaking of food….

Where to eat in Lucban

Lucban’s tourist map is dotted with a few restaurants offering regional dishes. right here are a few of them.

Mustiola’s

Mustiola’s (San Luis Street). A turo-turo/carinderia-style restaurant set in an ancestral house. Specialty: Sinantomas (a meat stewsimilar to kaldereta), halo-halo.

Cafe San Luis (San Luis Street). An al-fresco-type eatery. Specialty: Inalamangan, similar to binagoongan however with added turmeric.

Old center Panciteria (San Luis Street). Specialty: Pancit Habhab.

Dealo Koffee Klatch (Quezon Avenue). Speciality: desserts.

Abcede’s Resto (Quezon Avenue). Specialty: longganisa burger.

Word of caution: you may want to prevent eating during peak hours (11am-1pm) since you’ll be sharing the restaurants with the rest of the tourists. If you’re allergic to waiting times that feel like forever, take an early or late lunch.

The town’s tourism surges during Pahiyas however isn’t extremely active for the rest of the year. Hence, lodging choices in Lucban are extremely limited, to state the least.

Batis Aramin resort as well as Hotel. the most widely known location to stay in Lucban. Lying just opposite Kamay ni Hesus, this resort-slash-nature-park is only 5-10 minutes from the town center. inspect rates here: Batis Aramin.

Other locations to stay are in Lucban:

Orena’s Inn hotel as well as resort

Manasa farm as well as spring resort

Many opt with a resort outside Lucban. That’s okay too. as well as you may be thinking about of going to Pagbilao-Padre Burgos to go island-hopping, see Borawan beach as well as Dampalitan Island, as well as perhaps spend the night there. let me tell you as early as now: DON’T. These islands are congested even on routine summertime days. Going right here on the exact same day of Pahiyas will double the numbers. You most likely won’t enjoy it. look elsewhere. right here are other options:

Liliw as well as Majayjay, Laguna. There are little mountain resorts by the river.

San Pablo City, Laguna. Pig out as well as see the seven Lakes while you’re there.

Cagbalete Island, Quezon. beach bum!

Or just stay in close-by Tayabas City.

Nawawalang Paraiso Resort. Brgy. Camaysa, Tayabas. (042) 793-3437. P2900 per space (2-6 pax).

Kamayan sa Palaisdaan Hotel. Brgy. Dapdap, Tayabas. (042)793-3654.

Mi Casa en Tayabas. 73 M. Ponce Street. (042) 793-2660/

The great thing about staying in Tayabas is you likewise get to see as well as check out this historic city. Some locations of interest:

Puente de Malagonlong (Malagonlong Bridge), a 445-ft stone arch bridge built during the Spanish age as well as is one of the oldest Spanish bridges in the country.

San Miguel de Archangel Basilica Menor (Tayabas Basilica), the center of the Catholic belief in the city, developed in 1600.

Capistrano Distillery, which creates lambanog, Quezon’s signature alcoholic drink.

Casa de Comunidad de Tayabas, a historic bahay na bato which now homes a museum, gallery, as well as library.

Tokyo: top 10 suggested Hostels

hotels may be typically costly in Tokyo, however hostels offer a much less expensive alternate to the budget-conscious backpacker. as well as there are a great deal of them in the Japanese capital.

While you won’t discover bed rates that are as low as those in Southeast Asia, these hostels as well as inns can go even under USD 20 per night. Unlike in other cities where hostels seem to be concentrated in just one district, they are scattered all throughout the metropolis, which makes choosing the best one a much much more challenging decision. To assist you with that, I strongly desire you to checked out this publish first: Where to stay in Tokyo.
